The truth is more unbelievable than lies. When you take a look at why home businesses fail, you will discover that the truth is unbelievable about why the failures occur. In one of the most powerful economic systems the failure rate is tremendously high. Why is this the case? In looking at the structure of home businesses, it is evident why most people fail. The failure is because the whole home business strategy is flawed. The strategy focuses more on selling than on structure. When a person who is currently an employee or a self employed individual is put in a position of running a business, the system breaks down. Unless the home business owner makes the transition from the employee mentality to the self employed or business owner mentality they will end up being a business casualty.

 

In Robert Kiyosaki's book "Cash Flow Quadrant" he explains the difference between the types of individuals in the market place. The quadrant has four sections:

 

• Employee- This person works for others. Gets paid through the W-2 tax system, where they pay taxes on the gross income then pay taxes on the net income. They have 401k retirement incomes and don't think about the entrepreneurial spirit.

 

• Self-Employed- These people have a tendency to want to do everything themselves. Their business is usually regional and if they were to leave the business suffers. The business they build has very little value since the Self Employed person is the business. If they are able to sell their business the person buying it requires that the self employed person stays and works in the business for a period of time. Now they are an employee in their own business. They believe that "no one can do it as good as they can". If they leave for any period of time the business suffers. They worry that other self employed people with steal their customers.

 

• Businesses Owners-These people delegate all task to employees and expect the business to develop value. These business owners can leave their business for an indefinite period of time and the business will grow and survive. Their focus is a global focus and not regional, they expect their business to develop into a global powerhouse and grow because their team is filled with highly competent employees. They are different than the self employed people because they want to build an asset and not just value.

 

• Investors- This group of people looks to invest their wealth and build what they have acquired. They don't listen to financial planners who prey on the first two groups of people. They look to unique individuals who understand creating wealth and not just creating cash. They use people who have more wealth than they do to give them advice, and they look at what they have in a global view not local. They don't use the financial institutions to grow their wealth they learn how to think like a financial institution. Some even start their own financial institutions.

 

Understanding these groups of people is important in understanding why home businesses fail. People who are starting a home business usually fall into the first two categories. With an employee mindset or a self employed mindset people want to do everything themselves because they think that it is expensive to hire people. What is overlooked is the cost of not having people to delegate tasks to. A home business owner will find good people to delegate to. You don't have to pay these people, they will work on commission. It is a known fact that most home based businesses fail shortly after they are started. Most businesses are started on a shoestring and usually the money used in starting a home business is from the cash flow of the home business owner. The business will survive as long as the home business owner is willing to fund the operation. Most all home businesses never survive simply on their own cash flow because the business model is not one of survival. The model is a flawed model based on the duplication of others mistakes. Never could any business survive when failure is duplicated by failure.

 

How does this happen?

 

Home businesses are sold to individuals with each new home business owner following the examples of the people who sold them the business. The one who sold the business idea to the home business owner soon goes on to another business, and then they drop the one that they were initially selling. They flit from one home business to another with every one failing, and eventually they stop because they finally decide they are tired of spending their hard earned capital on a losing proposition. The revenue that is realized from the home business is very small or next to nothing, and after this is done for a few months, the new home business owner sees another opportunity and changes to the next greatest home business. Duplication of one business failure to another! This model has repeatedly been a failure system with few home business owners winning. Why all of these years' people have fallen for the hype and schemes that have easily extracted cash from people who desperately wanted to better themselves, and create income for their families is a great question? The only logical answer is that people are desperately trying to find a better way; therefore they think that if they keep trying they will eventually find the opportunity.

 

For years people have spent money hoping that the promises, which were part of the sales marketing hype that was used to sell the home business, only to realize failure instead of success. All the marketing used to sell the home based business is based on following the strategy of duplication. The home business, under its current structure, is simply a numbers game. The people setting up the home business and the ones selling the home business all know that they have to find work through a certain amount of people to get another person to buy into the home business. These same people know that the staying power of each and every home business owner will only stay a short period of time before they are off to the next opportunity. The winner is the person who is in their face when the potential home business owner is looking for that new opportunity.

 

Solution

 

Here is the solution to success down and dirty! You must find a home business that gives you a very high income. Treat the home business as if you are looking at a franchise opportunity and that the opportunity is costing you tens of thousands of dollars. If you were looking at a McDonalds Franchise and being asked to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars would you do your due-diligence? You bet! You would make sure that what you were getting was proven and that other owners were making money. You would check the business out. You should have that same intensity with the home business that you are considering. You should act as if you are spending lots of money for the business because in essence you are.

 

Look at it this way, if you spend money to join a home business, what ever the cost, you must calculate what you earn per hour currently. Then you have to figure that you will spend about 15-20 hours per week for the next 12-18 months working to get your home business started. At your current hourly rate how much do you have to earn to at least break even? Now in any start-up you will spend a lot to get the business going but will you recoup your initial investment of time and money back in the next 12-18 months? These points are totally ignored when setting up a home business. Subconsciously this contributes to business failure, because the home business owner wakes up and realizes that they have spent more than they received in revenue, so they quit or are off to the next fabulous opportunity. If the potential business owner did a little home work they would not join the home business or MLM. This little tidbit would save millions of business failures.

 

While we are discussing investment one of the important issues to be aware of is ROI [Return on Investment]. When you are running a home business you want to make sure that whenever you spend money you can see a large potential return on the money spent. By doing a strategic plan before you spend money you will calculate your ROI and see if the potential dollars spent will return what you are expecting. There is a simple calculation that can easily return an answer and let you know whether to spend the money or not.

 

Another point is that you get what you pay for. If you take on a low price product than you will have to sell a lot more product to get your initial investment of time and money back. I don't know whether you know this or not, but it takes just as much time and effort to sell a lower price product as it does to sell a higher price product. As a matter of fact, the lower price product makes people wonder how you can make millions on a $10 product. The higher the price product the easier the sale! I don't care what you say I have done it both ways.

 

Training by successful people, is essential since you want to be trained by experts. If the home business you are looking at has no training, opt out. No training is a definite recipe for failure. Any home business worth its salt will have training, but don't be fooled by wolves in sheep's clothing. Is the training legit? Have the person selling you the business tell you about the training. Learn as much as you can and understand the technology behind it. Many home businesses say they will train you and usually the training is done by the person selling you the home business. This is back to duplication, instead of delegation. You want to understand the person's credentials that is doing the training. Don't let the blind lead you! Also ask if their strategy is duplication or delegation. They probably will not understand what you are asking but this question will give you a clue as to where they are coming from.

 

Now let's talk about delegation. What is it and how to put it in practice? Delegation management and marketing is a new trend in creating a home business. It has been developed out of sheer frustration when looking at the failure rate in home businesses. As we looked at why home businesses failed we discovered that it was simply by duplicating what others who were failing were doing. It's as simple as that, but it took time to put the labels on it. Delegation Management-In Home Business


The art of delegation has been around since the beginning of time. It is used from the cradle to the grave when passing duties to others. It has many terms, such as Management by Delegation, Business Management-Delegation, Stress Management, Time Management thru Delegation and so on. I could go on and on with different takes on Delegation Management. Delegation Management begins with Strategic Management down.

Wikipedia defines strategic management the following way:

Strategic management is the art and science of formulating, implementing and evaluating cross-functional decisions that will enable an organization to achieve its objectives ^[1]. It is the process of specifying the organization's objectives, developing policies and plans to achieve these objectives, and allocating resources to implement the policies and plans to achieve the organization's objectives. Strategic management, therefore, combines the activities of the various functional areas of a business to achieve organizational objectives. It is the highest level of managerial activity, usually formulated by the Board of directors and performed by the organization's Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and executive team. Strategic management provides overall direction` to the enterprise and is closely related to the field of Organization Studies.

In looking at the information on strategic management it talks about formulation, implementation, and evaluation. Formulation is done at the beginning and implementation is what the management team does, and evaluation is done through out the process. You can read the page at Wikipedia to learn more, but the point is nowhere does anything talk about duplication.

Home businesses especially MLM businesses operate on the method of duplication. This process is flawed right from the beginning, I will deal with that statement later, but is practiced in an arena that produces a huge proportion of failure. This is how it works! Let's use you, the reader, as the example. You decide that you want to create another stream of income, for what ever reason. Maybe you read that you can do this easily on the internet, or you're job is going nowhere, or you need extra money to educate you're children, whatever reason. You get an email about a home business or you're  neighbor tells you that they have come across a great business that will make you millions so you take a look. You see ads and videos that talk about people who are driving sports cars and living in huge houses, so you decide that is you.

You sign on to the business with a promise that you will be trained. [let's look at brief statistics about the home business industry. Ninety nine percent of the new business start-ups will fail. Within the first ten years only one out of nine with survive. The same follows for the next five years, on down till there is a ninety nine percent failure rate. There are 150,000 new home businesses started each week. This means that people are putting their hard earned money into an operation that is pre-destined to fail but they don't know it. Many people start multiple home businesses because they are inexpensive.] You go to the person who sold you the home business opportunity, and ask for training. They may spend some time with you but you quickly realize they are off to sell the next person. You are handed a huge manual along with the products that you bought. The manual teaches you how to duplicate other business and everything that has supposedly worked in the past. [If GE and IBM practiced duplication they would have quickly been out of business. What works for one company will not work for another.]

Duplication- You begin to start to do what you are told and all of a sudden you realize that what you are doing is so time consuming and tedious that you start to burn out. Let alone you are making enemies of your friends. You are following what is called a "Cradle to the Grave" work ethic. You are doing everything! Plus you now realize that the friend or person that sold you the home business is off to another business or finished with it all together. [The reason that people hop from one to another is that they are looking for a quick fix. Instant success! They don't understand that it takes time to build wealth. If it didn't take time everyone would be wealthy.] Now you quickly realize that you are following a strategy of failure. You're duplicating a strategy that has left in it's wake multiple failures. The people that succeed are the ones that are muscling the business through by sheer brute strength, or are following a strategy of Delegation.

Delegation- For your home business to be successful you have to think like a CEO and delegate duties. Strategic Management expressly calls for it. It doesn't call for duplication. It calls for all the strategies to be delegated to the proper department and individual to get done. The problem in running a home business is that you don't know how to think like a CEO and how to delegate. Or you say, delegate to whom? [Now don't get your tail feathers in a flurry, the majority of the people in the world are employees and not CEO's. So how could you expect to think like a CEO unless someone teaches you? Individuals ego's kick in and they all think they are Bill Gates or Donald Trump. Just be you and know your weakness and learn.] And you are right, you don't know how to delegate in you're home business so you stop and call it quits. Just like the person who sold you on the hype, you now have trouble selling the same hype to others but even if you are successful, how are you going to train them since you lack the ability to run your own home business. [I have seen people with great management skills fail in the home business arena because it is so different.]

Now what do you do since you have read that running your home business is a great way to achieve financial freedom but it seems that the cards are stacked against you. You are starting to think that all the information that you re reading is simply just selling books, and dreams, but not reality. [Duplication in theory makes sense, when written about, but when the human element is injected into it failure occurs. The business owner is not like the others that sold the business to you. They have different management styles and personalities. Also one person can't run a company and empty the trash while keeping a positive attitude. It is exhausting just thinking about it. One person will burn out under the "Chief cook and bottle washer" mentality.]
